Election Apathy and Ballot Spoiling.

So I'm sitting here in my apartment all my byself watching the CBC election coverage. Now I know our elections aren't exactly as exciting as say...oh...the Americans. There is no clear choice- do you let the Conservatives try one more time or do you go Liberal and get the possibility of a carbon tax and military cuts? Or you can vote for Creepy Jack or Happy Mae. No thanky. But that doesn't mean you don't vote. Damnit- you're Canadian, and by the very fact that you are Canadian you can haul your fat ass to a poling station and take 10 minutes and go vote! Even if you have no idea who to vote for go out and enie meanie miny moe it. But honeslty, you should have at least looked at one of those online "voting for dumbies" sheets and educated yourself at least enough to narrow it down to two possibles for yourself. There's no excuse not to vote.

Now, what really pisses me off are people who publicly declare "I spoiled my ballot!"...congrats. Why bother? If you're protesting the lack of likeable candidates, you haven't gotten your point accross, you've just slightly amused the ballot counters. Why did you vote in the first place? Instead of taking your funamental right to vote and attempting to make a change for the better- you've just put yourself on the same level as a felon and thrown your vote out the window. People are going to be elected no matter what- because you wrote "fuck you" accross your ballot doesn't mean they're going to go "oh my, you're right! We don't have any good candidates! Stop the presses we'll start all over again!" No- they're going to roll their eyes and throw it in the bin. If you're protesting just about anything else you've done no better.

So so far the Liberals have won my riding (St. Paul's), and the Conservatives have won Glengarry-Prescott-Russel (Navan's riding) aswell at Ottawa-Orleans (closest one to Navan).

Right now it looks like the Conservatives will have a pretty strong minority government. Am I happy? No. Am I angry? No. I'm apathetic. But at least I got my ass to the poling station and put my X on the ballot.
